A wee bit about me

Hey, I'm Fiona!

I've been singing, dancing and acting for as long as I can remember! At the age of ten, I co-wrote and starred in my very first show, a Christmas musical called Scroogette, and I've been hooked on performing ever since.

Growing up, I absolutely loved musicals (and still do!). I dreamed of playing the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and by fifteen I'd landed my first leading role in Fiddler on the Roof. Since then, I've been lucky enough to play some fantastic roles, including Sandy in Grease, Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, Eva Perón in Evita, Grizabella in Cats, Molly in Ghost (pictured) and many more incredible roles.

A few adventures along the way...

I started my professional career performing in cabaret and variety shows before going on to sing at venues and events across the UK.

One of the more unexpected highlights was being selected to appear in the famous Halifax Bank of Scotland television adverts. After several rounds of X Factor-style auditions, I found myself filming commercials in India and New Zealand, recording CDs and albums, performing at huge live events and even appearing on billboards across the UK. It was all a bit surreal, but such an amazing experience.

Over the years, I've also had the pleasure of performing with some wonderful bands and ensembles, covering everything from big band and jazz to pop, rock and classical music. Another particularly special moment was performing as a featured soloist at Edinburgh's Usher Hall in Movies to Musicals, alongside some incredible West End performers including Kerry Ellis, Lorna Luft & Joe McEldery.

Music was always my favourite subject at school, although I wasn't particularly academic and was once told I'd probably never make it to university. Well, I do love proving people wrong!

After starting my career as a professional performer, I eventually returned to education, gaining Diplomas in Musical Theatre and Contemporary Music Styles & Jazz, before going on to study Classical Voice at university, graduating with a Bachelor of Music (Distinction).

I then completed a postgraduate teaching qualification (PGDE), becoming a qualified teacher, and these days I work part-time as a Lecturer in Singing and Voice at Edinburgh College, alongside running my own Singing business and Voice Studio.

All that training across classical, musical theatre, jazz and contemporary styles has given me the freedom to sing such a wonderful variety of music, which is one of the things I love most about what I do!

After more than 25 years in the industry, I still get the same excitement from singing as I did when I was little. I love the variety of what I do, whether that's a beautiful classical piece during a wedding ceremony, a favourite acoustic cover or getting everyone singing and dancing at a celebration. No two events are ever quite the same, and that's what makes it so much fun!

When I'm not singing

I'm a very proud mum to two wonderful daughters, now both young women, and I'm married to Stephen, a primary school teacher and magician who also happens to be the other half of our Music & Magic entertainment package. We met on Match.com back in 2012, so I'm living proof that online dating really can work.

We also have a beautiful old tabby cat called Nala, who seems convinced she's a singer too. She's certainly got the volume, although her technique could do with a little work!

Away from music, I love cooking, baking and experimenting with new recipes, and I'm rarely sitting still for long. I'm always learning something new or finding another project to get stuck into.

I'm also a huge lover of Italy, its food, beautiful places and way of life. I've explored some wonderful parts of the country over the years and still dream of living there one day.

Above all, I genuinely love what I do. Whether it's creating a special moment during a wedding ceremony, bringing a lovely atmosphere to a celebration or getting everyone up dancing, there's nothing quite like sharing music with people.
